Homework and announcements
Here are the homework assignments for Algebra 2. Most of them refer to handout packets; copies of these handouts are available to you by logging into the FirstClass system.
Assignments will generally be added to this page daily, but if an assignment is given in class but doesn't get posted here for whatever reason, you're still responsible for it.
HW due Mon. 4/5 (E block only)
We've had no homework for the past two nights due to Passover, but during class we've been working on problem sets about counting methods. Your homework is to finish anything you have remaining from these packets:
- Counting methods (Part 2): Permutations
- Counting methods (Part 3): Combinations
- Counting methods (Part 4): More combinations
HW due Thu. 4/1 (A and H blocks)
We've had no homework for the past two nights due to Passover, but during class we've been working on problem sets about counting methods. Your homework tonight is to finish anything you have remaining from these packets:
- Counting methods (Part 1): The Multiplication Principle
- Counting methods (Part 2): Permutations
- Counting methods (Part 3): Combinations
Also, there will be a short quiz tomorrow (Thu. 4/1) on matrix addition, subtraction, and multiplication (including word problems); to prepare, review the packets from Mar. 23 and 25.
No HW due Tue. 3/30 (for A and E blocks)
Since it's a holiday for some of you, you do not have to do any homework Monday night. Here's what we did during class time on Monday:
- A block: After going over the previous homework, we began the packet "Counting methods (Part 1): Multiplication Principle." We will resume work on that packet on Tuesday.
- E block: After taking a quiz, we began the packet "Counting methods (Part 2): Permutations." We will resume work on that packet on Tuesday.
HW due Tue. 3/30 (H block only)
Finish the problem set from Friday's class, "Counting methods (Part 1): Multiplication Principle." (If you are observing the holiday Monday night, you should finish this assignment between Friday and Sunday.)
HW due Mon. 3/29 (E block only)
- Finish the problem set "Counting methods (Part 1): Multiplication Principle."
- We will have a short quiz on Monday about matrix addition, subtraction, and multiplication (including word problems).
HW due Fri. 3/26 (E, H) or Mon. 3/29 (A)
Finish the problem set "Matrix multiplication."
HW due Wed. 3/24 (E) or Thu. 3/25 (A, H)
Finish the problem set "Matrix arithmetic."
HW due Mon. 3/22 (A, E) or Tue. 3/23 (H)
Finish the problem set "Reduced matrix from calculator." Next class will begin with a one-question quiz based on this homework.
No HW due Fri. 3/19 (E, H) or Mon. 3/22 (A)
Since we just had a test, there's no homework due at the following class.
Test Wed. 3/17 (E) or Thu. 3/18 (A, H)
Test on solving linear systems, including solving using matrices (see review handout for a more detailed outline).
At the preceding class (Tue. 3/16 for E block, Wed. 3/17 for A and H blocks) we worked on a second set of review problems "Systems and Matrices: review 2." Your homework is to finish any remaining review problems and to study for the test.
HW due Wed. 3/17 (A and H blocks only)
Finish the review problem set "Systems and matrices: review 1." We'll do a second set of review problems on Wednesday, then have a test Thursday.
Lab 3/15 and HW due 3/16 (E block only)
Today's class is a computer lab, "Solving systems using the
Matrix Row Operations Tool." (You can follow the link to get to the tool.)
If you do not finish during class, finish tonight and hand in the lab packet tomorrow. (If finishing tonight is impossible because you won't have access to a computer, handing it in later in the week will be OK.)
HW due Tue. 3/16 (A and H blocks only)
Finish the problem set "How many solutions to a system?"
HW due Mon. 3/15 (E block only)
Finish the problem set "Systems and matrices: review 1."
Also, remember to go to computer lab 700 for class on Monday.
Lab 3/11/2010 (A and H blocks)
Today's class is a computer lab, "Solving systems using the
Matrix Row Operations Tool." (You can follow the link to get to the tool.)
If you do not finish during class, finish sometime that you're able to use a computer, anytime between now and the first class of next week. Hand in your lab packet when you've finished.
HW due Fri. 3/12 (E block only)
Finish the problem set "How many solutions to a system?"
HW due Wed. 3/10 (E) or Thu. 3/11 (A, H)
Finish the problem set "Matrix elimination with three variables."
A and H block classes only: Report directly to room 503 (computer lab) for Thursday's class.
HW due Tue. 3/9 (E) or Wed. 3/10 (A, H)
Finish the problem set "Matrix elimination practice."
Also: Wed. 3/10 for all classes, we will have a tiny quiz (just one problem, worth a few points) on solving a system using the matrix elimination method. The purpose is to give you an early measurement of whether you've learned the method or not.
HW due Mon. 3/8 (E) or Tue. 3/9 (A, H)
Finish the problem set "Solving linear systems: matrix elimination method."
HW due Fri. 3/5 (E, H) or Mon. 3/8 (A)
Finish the problem set "Solving linear systems graphically."
HW due Wed. 3/3 (A, E) or Thu. 3/4 (H)
Finish the problem set "Solving linear systems: elimination method."
HW due Tue. 3/2 (A, E) or Wed. 3/3 (H)
Finish the problem set "Solving linear systems: substitution method."
